Top 7 Movie Monologues About Business
It’s not often nowadays that a movie has a great monologue or frankly any monologue at all. Perhaps it’s because monologues are in some ways a throwback to cinema’s roots in stage plays and the further movies get away from those roots, the less likely to have lengthy speeches by one character. After all, movies are primarily a visual medium. Monologues are primarily an auditory experience.
But there have been and still are some terrific monologues in movies. For example, here’s a list from FilmmakerIQ on the theme of business:
Larry the Liquidator [Other People’s Money]
Primary Forces of Nature [Network]
Coffee is for Closers! [Glengarry Glen Ross]
The four others:
Corruption [Syriana]
Group Interview [Boiler Room]
A Much Richer Man [It’s A Wonderful Life]
Greed is Good [Wall Street]
What makes a great monologue, something worth including in a script or movie? I can think of a few things. An interesting point of view / world view. A compelling argument or point. Smart. Incendiary. Says something profound.
How about you? What makes a great monologue?
