Update: “Go Into The Story: The Quest”

Phew! What a week or so. Everything about this project grew exponentially. I never expected the level of response from writers, nor did I anticipate turning “The Quest” into a daily exercise in discussing story ideas, but what happened just… evolved. Even the emergence of the so-called “Producer Scott” character.

Here are some preliminary numbers:

Individual submissions: 1807
Total loglines [estimated]: 3500–4000

Those numbers will change as I work my way through your loglines. But as I’ve Tweeted and posted last night, I will personally review every single one of your loglines [I’m gotten through 700 of them]. Due to the volume, I will need to take this week to get through them all.

Also re my offer for a free Core or Craft class with me for every entrant: I made a commitment and I will stick to it. I will have more on this next week as I am investigating several options, but every one of you who submitted loglines to “Go Into The Story: The Quest” will have the opportunity to take a screenwriting class with me at no cost.

I not only received a tsunami of submissions, I also got a bunch of emails from folks sharing their thoughts about how much they learned about screenwriting, specifically developing story concepts, during this last week or so. I am really glad to hear that because, as I keep hammering home, the central conceit of your script is of enormous importance.

To that end, I am going to continue the Story Ideas series one more week, five additional posts to help you in generating and developing story concepts.
