Update: “The Beaver”
H/T to Tom Peterson for sending me this:
I’m hearing from myriad insiders that Summit Entertainment has scheduled the Jodie Foster-directed film The Beaver starring Mel Gibson for Spring of 2011. Once the studio decided not to give the film an Oscar qualifying run, it was just a question of when the best release date was. I also hear that Entertainment Tonight is airing the trailer on Friday night’s show… Jodie has described Gibson’s performance as “one of his most powerful and moving performances”.
The Beaver is such an interesting and well-written script. Made me an unabashed fan of its writer Kyle Killen. Tried to help his TV series “Lone Star” — here, here, and here.
I know the Mel Gibson thing is problematic. But strictly on the level of one screenwriter to another, it’s important The Beaver gets released because (A) the story deserves to be seen, (B) it should help Killen’s writing career, and © he’ll get more money from the movie’s ancillary revenues including DVD, cable, foreign, etc.
So please understand: When I promote The Beaver on GITS, it’s Killen I’m pushing, not… you know… the other guy.
