Video Interview: Bob Gale

Today’s interview is with screenwriter Bob Gale whose writing credits include I Wanna Hold Your Hand (1978), 1941 (1979), Used Cars (1980), Back to the Future (1985), Back to the Future Part II (1989), and Back to the Future Part III (1990). 

Here Gale discusses early drafts of Back to the Future where Marty McFly was at points a video pirate and so despondent, he was contemplating suicide:

“The script to Back to the Future was rejected over 40 times before it finally went into production. So when people ask me what’s the most important thing for people who want to be in the movie business… separate and apart from the talent and technical ability, it’s perseverance and having a cast-iron constitution to deal with all the rejection you’re going to get.”
