Video Interview: Joe Eszterhas
Today someone emailed me to get a copy of the infamous spec script “Sacred Cows” by Joe Eszterhas, the premise of which is the U.S. President is discovered having sex with a cow. That reminded me of this video interview I had saved from FORA.tv.
For those who need a reminder, Eszterhas is the most successful spec script writer of all time having sold Basic Instinct for $3M, Jade for $2.5M, Sacred Cows and Reliable Sources for $2M each, and Male Pattern Baldness for $2M against $4.5M. [There was also One Night Stand which if I recall correctly went for $4M, but that sale was based on a 3 or 4-page treatment, so not considered a spec script sale].
Even though Eszterhas has not been active as a screenwriter in Hollywood for the last decade, given his track record, it still makes sense to pay attention to what he has to say — hence this interview.
