Trivia: Daniel Day-Lewis at first turned down the role feeling the script made him too nice. The script was revised and added in things from the book that made the character less “perfect”.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Commentary by Ken: “Lena Olin’s character [Sabina] receives a postcard explaining the circumstances behind her commitment troubled friend’s deaths (failed brakes on a rainy morning) the film backtracks to give us this last scene.”
