Crush: Dude? Dude? Focus dude… Dude?
[Marlin wakes up]
Crush: Oh, he lives. Hey, dude!
Marlin: Oh… What happened?
Crush: Saw the whole thing, dude. First you were all like “whoa”, and we were like “whoa”, and you were like “whoa…”
Marlin: What are you talking about?
Crush: You, Mini-Man, takin’ on the jellies. You’ve got serious thrill issues, dude. Awesome.
Marlin: Oh, my stomach. Ohh.
Crush: Oh, man. Hey, no hurling on the shell, dude, ok? Just waxed it.
Marlin: So, Mr. Turtle?
Crush: Whoa, Dude. Mister Turtle is my father. The name’s Crush.
Marlin: Crush, really? OK, Crush. I need to get to the East Australian Current. EAC?
Crush: [laughing] Oh, dude. You’re ridin’ it, dude! Check it out!

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week is Pixar moments suggested by Mark Walker. Today’s suggestion by Aarthi Ramanathan.

Trivia: Andrew Stanton pitched his idea and story to Pixar head John Lasseter in an hour-long session, using elaborate visual aids and character voices. At the end of it, the exhausted Stanton asked Lasseter what he thought, to which Lasseter replied, “You had me at ‘fish’.”

Dialogue On Dialogue: Commentary from Aarthi: “Ok, may not be the greatest moment but it’s certainly one of the most memorable: I remember the whole theatre roared with laughter for this one. The takeaway: introduces ‘Crush’ aka. surfer turtle, a minor character who manages to totally steal the show, funny but also a very interesting ‘mentor’ figure with hilariously dispensed wisdom — even if he’s only there for ‘like a few minutes’. Helps Marlin see the light and also reveals what Marlin needs to do: aka. lighten up!”

Also if I recall, Stanton voiced Crush.
