Daily Dialogue — December 21, 2016

Morpheus: At last. Welcome, Neo. As you no doubt have guessed, I am Morpheus.

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Faith.

Trivia: In Greek Mythology Morpheus is the god of dreams. Somewhat ironic considering Morpheus’ role here is to awaken people from their dream states to reality.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Clearly Morpheus believes in Neo. There is this from a script which didn’t make the movie:

MORPHEUS: Let me tell you why you are here. You are here because you have the gift.

NEO What gift?

MORPHEUS: I’ve watched you, Neo. You do not use a computer like a tool. You use it like it was part of yourself. What you can do inside a computer is not normal. I know. I’ve seen it. What you do is magic.

NEO It’s not magic.

MORPHEUS: But it is, Neo. It is. How else would you describe what has been happening to you?

However Morpheus has believed that OTHERS were The One as suggested from a line by Cypher:

CYPHER If he is the One, then in the next few seconds there has to be some kind of miracle to stop me. Because if he dies like the others that means Morpheus was wrong. How can he be the One if he’s dead?

Nevertheless Morpheus comes to have greater faith in Neo.

Indeed, all of the training and teaching Morpheus does is based on his belief that Neo is The One.

In the end, Morpheus’ faith proves to be true.
