Trivia: Gary Sinise later started a band called the Lieutenant Dan Band, with the proceeds from the band’s performances going to charity. He also stars in a series of ads as Lieutenant Dan supporting suicide hotlines for veterans.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Destiny is a key theme running throughout Forrest Gump. With Lieutenant Dan, he had a military legacy in his family — to die with honor in the field of battle. Because Forrest saved his life, Dan feels like a failure, fate abrogated by the influence of a simple man, leaving the Lieutenant to pose the question which will drive him for the rest of the story: What will I do now?
