Daily Dialogue — July 15, 2013

Oskar: Who are you?
Eli: I’m like you.
Oskar: What do you mean?
Eli: [accusing tone] What are you staring at? Well?
Eli: Are you looking at me?
Eli: [points her finger at Oskar] So scream! Squeal!
Eli: Those were the first words I heard you say.
Oskar: I don’t kill people.
Eli: No, but you’d like to. If you could… To get revenge. Right?
Oskar: Yes.
Eli: Oskar, I do it because I have to.
Eli: Be me, for a while.
[pause]
Eli: Please Oskar… Be me, for a little while.

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week is horror scene, suggested by @JaimePrimak. Today’s suggestion by Blake Kuehn.

Trivia: The title of the film (as well as the novel upon which it was based) refers to the fact that, according to myth, vampires must be invited in before they can enter someone’s home (this is shown in the film when Eli asks Oskar to invite her into his apartment). The English-translated title of the book and film, “Let The Right One In”, is taken from lyrics to the song “Let the Right One Slip In” by Morrissey.

Dialogue On Dialogue: Commentary by Blake: “Amazing on so many levels. Oskar and Eli are mirrors of each other and their interplay (verbal/nonverbal) consistently conveys their desire to inhabit each others’ world despite the horrific price they have to pay in order to do so.” Thanks, Blake, a great suggestion.

Note: I would have thought we would be flooded with suggestions for this theme, but not the case. So unless some of you DDT faithful chime in, I’ll just rely on my own horror faves to fill in the rest of the week. Now wouldn’t that be… erm… horrible?
