Daily Dialogue — May 16, 2016

EXT. NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL FIELD — AFTERNOON

The stadium is packed with screaming Fighting Irish faithful. Down on the Notre Dame sideline, COACH DEVINE turns to RUDY, gives him a shove.

COACH DEVINE: All right! Go! Get in there, kid!

The stadium erupts. RUDY runs onto the field to lineup for the kickoff.

ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD-–

Notre Dame kicks off. After the play, the scoreboard shows 7 seconds left on the clock. “Rudy” is still being chanted throughout the stadium.

RUDY looks to the sideline, confused.

RUDY: What do I do?

ON THE SIDELINE–

COACH DEVINE motions for RUDY to stay on the field.

COACH DEVINE: Stay in! Stay in!

ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD–

Notre Dame lines up on defense. RUDY gets down at the end of the line. He’s going to pass rush.

The ball is snapped. RUDY flies pass the blocker and chases after the quarterback, sacking him for a loss.

RUDY leaps up, ecstatic. His teammates flock to his side and celebrate with him. He is lifted up onto their shoulders and paraded around the football field.

Trivia: The game film that Coach Parseghian is watching when Rudy walks in to ask if he could dress is actually from the game that Rudy played in.
