“I do love you, Forrest.”

Forrest Gump (1994), screenplay by Eric Roth, novel by Winston Groom

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week is sex scene, suggested by Dean Scott.

Trivia: I heard this directly from Wendy Finerman, one of the movie’s producers. Three A-list screenwriters had been hired to adapt the novel, none of the screenplays quite working. Eric Roth came on board. Read the novel. Read the three drafts. Met with Wendy and said, “I know the problem. There’s no love story.” Imagine Forrest Gump without the Forrest-Jenny subplot. Yet it took 4 top Hollywood writers to figure that out.

Dialogue On Dialogue: A relationship that started with a chance meeting decades ago on a school bus takes a serious turn when Jenny decides to have sex with Forrest… and sets up the story’s Denouement.
