William: Shit! Bugger!
Anna: God!
William: I’m so sorry. Here, let me…

He tries to sop up the mess on her blouse, but she leaps back.

Anna: Get your hands off me!
William: I’m sorry, I live just over the street, I have water and soap. You can get cleaned up.
Anna: Thank you, I just need to get my car back.
William: I also have a phone. I’m confident that in five minutes, we can have you spic and span, and back on the street again. In the non-prostitute sense obviously.

Notting Hill (1999), written by Richard Curtis

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week is meet cute, suggested by bolo boffin.

Trivia: As he explains in the published screenplay, in Richard Curtis’s original conception of the story, Honey (Emma Chambers) was a worker in the record store across from his bookshop and Anna’s romantic rival for his affections. The film would have ended with William choosing her over the fantasy that Anna represented. Curtis decided that he could not just dismiss Anna, however, and so he made Honey into William’s sister instead.

Dialogue On Dialogue: How many times have we seen something like this? I mean that as an actual question, not just rhetorical. Let’s put our heads together and come up with a list of Bashing Together Meet Cutes.

And by the way, rom-coms are not in my wheelhouse, so I would appreciate those of you who are fans, please post some suggestions for meet cutes because I’ll flame out by the end of the week.
