When studying a movie, you do pretty much the same thing.

That said, there are times when you watch a movie or even read a screenplay where you do it just for pleasure. You turn off your analytical mind and simply enjoy the story. Admittedly, once you study screenwriting, that can be difficult to do. Still, there's a difference between a "popcorn" viewing/reading and an "analytical" viewing/reading in terms of the actual work you put in.

A riff off this: Read a script *while* watching the movie. That's a great exercise, especially when pondering the changes from script to screen. Try to get into the mindset of the director and editor, what they were attempting to accomplish to serve the story.

Re your last question: It's *critical* to feed your soul!!! Novels, short stories, poetry... yes, yes, read! Go to art museums. Take walks. Enjoy nature. Get away from any and all screens for good portions of time. Meditate. Sing. Dance. Anything that is not directly related to your creative process, just LIVE LIFE!

Besides giving you an energy boost, these sort of activities make you a more well-rounded person. Plus, it can put the writing part of your life in perspective.

In sum, as a writer, it's important to be intentional about your craft, whether you adopt something like a 1-2-7-14 approach or not. But it's equally important to step away from "butt on chair" writing and feed your soul.

Best of luck with your creative endeavors, Selena!
