Spec Script Sale: “The Wall”

Amazon Studio acquires drama thriller spec script “The Wall” written by Dwain Worrell. From Deadline:

A deadly cat-and-mouse contest waged by an American sharpshooter and the Iraqi sniper who has him pinned behind a small chunk of concrete. The sniper has commandeered the communications frequency and the enemies talk to each other through a standoff that will prove fatal for one of them.

Seems to me, the very idea of this spec script is right in the wheelhouse of Hollywood buyers today. Strong high concept. Thriller which is a hot genre nowadays. Similar but different to American Sniper which is getting good buzz. Can cast anybody. And it’s budgeted at $5M, so low risk with good upside potential.

This is Worrell’s first sale. The script landed him representation with CAA and Madhouse Entertainment.

This is an option deal.

By my count, this is the 55th spec script sale in 2014.

There were 92 spec script sales year-to-date in 2013.
