What’s the one thing — anything — you would change about movies?

Fellow Black List blogger Xander Bennett, host of the longtime Tumblr feed Screenwriting Tips… You Hack, has a new book out called “Screenwriting Tips, You Hack: 150 Practical Pointers for Becoming a Better Screenwriter” (available here).

Tied to the book’s release, Franklin Leonard, Xander and I thought it would be a great opportunity to ask a question about the current state of cinema and get your feedback:

What’s the one thing — anything — you would change about movies?

We want your short answers, long answers, serious answers, comic answers, but most importantly, we want your honest answers. What drives you crazy about movies nowadays and what would you do differently?

I’m sure most of you would be interested to sound off on the subject anyway, but as an added incentive, Focal Press (the publishers of Xander’s book) has put together some prizes for winners.

So imagine you are plucked out of obscurity and planted into the office of a Hollywood mogul, giving you unlimited power. What would you change about the film industry?

Or you are a theater owner and you suddenly win the lottery. How would you use your newly found resources to change the way the movies are presented?

Or you a Joe or Joanna Moviegoer settling into your seat at the local bijou when suddenly a genie pops out of your large tub of buttered popcorn exclaiming, “Sahib! You have a wish! What is the one thing you would change about the movies?”
