Hell, yeah, let’s celebrate! We are into Day 10! Double digits! One-third of the way home!
If you think this isn’t cause for celebration, think again. As writers, we hit so many “No’s”, so many walls, so much resistance. Any time we achieve something, even a good day’s work, acknowledge it somehow.
I wrote a Business of Screenwriting post about some years ago: Celebrate Your Victories. Honestly any time we manage to carve out even a page or two of writing, that’s a victory.

Pretty sweet, huh? This one comes courtesy of Marija Nielsen over in the Facebook ZDT group. It is funny, yes, but also a reminder that of all the narrative forms to which the adage “Writing is rewriting” applies, none more so than screenwriting.
On the one hand, that seems rather daunting. In terms of a Zero Draft, however, there’s a way in which this knowledge is quite freeing! We don’t have to worry about getting it perfect or even first draft-worthy. That’s what rewrites are for. Our focus is simply on getting scenes down as best we can in order to convey the essence of the scene, then move on.
So for that nifty visual reminder from the movie Mad Max: Fury Road, Marija Nielsen is today’s Trumbo Award winner!
