I reached out to several screenwriters whose scripts have been selected for the annual Black List, asking them this: What do you focus on when writing a first draft? Here are some thoughts from Eric Heisserer (2012, 2014 Black List):
Making pages.
Banish the internal editor.
Silence the perfectionist.
For the first draft, I just need to be a page factory.
It is always easier to cut
than it is to fill in new material.
Don’t stop your own momentum.
