Today’s Writing Quote
“If you must begin, then go all the way.
Because if you begin and quit,
the unfinished business you have left behind
begins to haunt you all the time.”
— Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Today’s Inspirational Video
Life = Risk. And certainly that is true when writing a story. Fear of failure looms like dark shadow hovering us and can, if we let it, stifle our creativity.
With a Zero Draft, we are taking another kind of risk, that the ways of perfection which have been ground into us via education and culture are not absolute truth. Rather by pounding out words, churning out pages, and forging ahead from FADE IN to FADE OUT, we find at least a glimpse of Truth in our story. And to claim the possibility of discovering that Truth is worth the risk.
If you have a writing quote appropriate for pounding out a zero draft, post to Comments, Twitter, or Facebook.
If you have a video to inspire or perhaps give us a laugh, post to Comments, Twitter, or Facebook.
But here’s the biggie: Head to Comments, Twitter, and Facebook to support each other!
How many pages did you write in the last 24 hours? Or if you’re prepping the story, what did you work on? How are you feeling about your story? Are you loving or hating your writing process? Did you have a good day or a bad day? Do you have any questions about your writing process? Ready to give a virtual hug… or maybe you need one.
Comments, Twitter, Facebook. That’s where the Zero Draft Thirty community gathers. Remember: Every day I’ll be handing out the coveted Trumbo Award to the best Comment, Tweet, Photoshop, anything you come up with to get our collective juices going.
And each day in November, I’ll be dishing out a special batch of ZDT-flavored creative juju for everyone who posts.
Nothing else to say. Just. Write.
Onward!
UPDATE: Can you feel it? That first ripple, that initial tear in the fabric of our collective consciousness. A slight slowing down. The first set of pages, some of us sprinted, others slogged along, but we got through them. Now middle of Act One… beginning of Act Two.. that initial burst of feel good energy… is starting wane.
Writing is like that. While some writers are relentless and have an established routine where page count rolls out of them like clockwork, many of us are more impacted by the ebb and flow of feelings… thoughts… external pressures… Life.
And so here on Day 4, the winner of The Trumbo Award goes to Ziff (@bleudrift) who tweeted this the other day:
Sometimes writing is a battle. And what we need to summon up is our Inner Warrior. We have to fight through our moods — anxiety, fear, self-loathing — and tedium of clickety clacking words which we delete… then write again… delete… write.
Sometimes the best, even only image we can connect with to help inspire us to move our stories forward is like this one above.
So if you are flagging. You feel the momentum slowing. And you know you have the tough test of Act Two awaiting you…
Just remember this: If you love your story… and you believe in yourself as a creative… you have what it takes to fight your way through this struggle.
Congratulations, Ziff! You are today’s Trumbo Award winner!
Write on, everyone! Fight on!
