True Grit was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2011. A remake of a 1969 movie featuring an iconic performance by John Wayne, writer-directors Joel and Ethan Coen crafted a script which evoked more of the spirit and tone of the Charles Portis novel.
